COAST TO COAST - NORTH ROUTE
Your riding ability
On our long distance rides we will be travelling many miles a day in the saddle, riding up and down hills and over rough terrain so you must be capable of riding in a balanced manner for your horses sake! Our horses health and happiness is always a priority to us and because of the long days in the saddle, we require all riders to be competent in riding with a light seat (i.e posting the trot and light seat in canter) to minimise stress on the horses back. We will be crossing rivers, galloping along beaches and may need to jump small natural obstacles, like ditches or fallen trees - nothing too big, but you need to be a capable rider and able to control a horse at speed. It is also important that you are practised in leading a horse over difficult terrain as there may be times when this is necessary. We require all our riders to be at a walk/trot/canter level.
Get to know a little about the trails and our minimum age/experience requirments

If your idea of heaven is just being around horses, or you want to learn more about their general day to day care this could be the ideal holiday for you! It's a chance to have a real hands on experience, spending all day enjoying the company of horses.
About Our Horse Care Holidays
We are a very friendly small yard and after a short induction, you will be treated very much as part of the team. You need basic riding skills to be able to join us (minimum walk/trot.) Unfortunately we are only able to offer working holidays for over 16's unless accompanied by a parent.
An average day will start with breakfast for humans and horses! The work involved during each day is generally grooming, tacking up horses, mucking out, feeding horses, helping with the hay, cutting wood as well as, looking after the chickens, cats, donkeys. You will very much be a part of farm life!. We try not to work you too hard and give you as much time as possible to spend time riding and enjoying horses. Our philosophy is get the mucky jobs done then have some fun!
The accommodation is at the cosy stone cottage at the yard with shared facilities and home cooked meals. The holidays will run for a week with arrival suggested for after 6pm Sunday and departure before 12pm the following Saturday. Approx hours of work each day would be 3hrs and riding each day would range from 1-3hrs depending on weather.
We ask for a £100 deposit on the working holidays and the balance paid 4 weeks before your working holiday. Please email or phone us to check availability before paying deposits.
