Day Two

Oykel Bridge to Bonar Bridge: 16 miles

We rejoin the old drove road and continue through Strath Cuilleanach crossing rivers as we go– another great day for seeing large herds of deer, with four different species living on Croick Estate. We stop for lunch at Croick church, where the crofters of the area scratched messages on the windows as they were cleared from the land during the notorious Highland Clearances in the early 19th century. We spend the night at Bonar Bridge.

Day Three

Bonar Bridge to Strathrusdale: 19 miles

We ride on through historic Glen Calvie. This is another picturesque glen and we follow the tumbling river towards Diebidale Lodge, before climbing out of the valley and following another ancient drove route through the hills, passing small lochs as we go. Again, the views are great and again we’re in an area where there are lots of red deer herds. We descend into the forest for some nice canters and then join the single track road, which we follow for a short while before reaching our destination for the night. We leave the horses and head off to our accommodation.

Strathrusdale to Tain: 18 miles

We continue along the single track road through Strath Rusdale, still following the same drove route, just paved over now, then head onto the forest trails of Morangie Forest – more great views from our lunch spot, then we head down through the small town of Tain with its old sandstone buildings, to ride on the beaches of the Dornoch Firth for a final blast, before returning to the stables to finish our ride.
